Namibia to host youth IT conference

Namibia to host youth IT conference

The conference, to be held from 11 to 16 August, is open to national youth councils from Africa as well as international non-governmental organisations promoting information and communications technology (ICT) for youth organisations. The organisers say the conference will address the challenges and opportunities facing national youth councils in the information age.Lessons are also to be provided in areas including Web site design and database design. The conference is being organised in collaboration with Namibia's ministry of higher education, training and employment creation; the United Nations (UN) Secretariat; UN Development Programme; and the Pan-African Youth Movement.

The organisers say the aims of the conference include highlighting the importance of ICT and Nepad (The New Partnership for Africa's Development) to managing and administrating youth councils, raising awareness of ICT best practices in Africa, and lobbying for technical and financial support for the provision of ICT resources to youth and youth organisations in Africa.
