The Kenya National ICT Convention

The Kenya National ICT Convention will be the culmination of a series of national sector-focused ICT conferences convened by the National ICT Board and supported by IDRC to drive forward effective ICT applications and solutions to underpin Kenya’s economic transformation into an electronically empowered economy competing effectively in the world economy and providing increased employment opportunities for its citizens.

The Convention will have two main objectives:

  1. Finalising Kenya’s national ICT Policy by collating in one forum all the outcomes for the KEPSA ICT sector events, as well as all other ICT policy initiatives. This will be done in close collaboration with government in order to facilitate practical implementation of the policy consensus achieved at the Convention.
  2. Showcasing existing and proposed ICT development projects in Kenya and in East Africa in order to secure private sector investment, donor funding and government endorsement for their selection and effective implementation.

In addition, the event will include two regional events:

The Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation (CTO) Conference: Implementing the WSIS Action Plan. This will bring Ministers, regulators and senior government officials from throughout Africa to develop practical and detailed implementation strategies in Africa for the recommendations emanating from the World Summit on Information Societies in Geneva in December. This will take place over the first two days of the Convention, running in parallel with Convention sessions.

The fourth annual ea.telecom Conference to provide a specialist stream within the Convention for regional operators, regulators, policy-makers and users, to learn from positive technical, regulatory and organizational developments in the  telecommunications sector.
