SADTU website nominated as a finalist for Labour Start's Site of the Year 2020

Groundbreaking South African Democratic Teachers' Union web-site (www.sadtu.org.za) has been nominated as a finalist for Labour Start's Site of the Year 2020. It is the third time that it has been nominated as one of the few entrants from democratic trades unions from the SOUTH. It is the official web portal of the South African Democratic Teachers Union, an affiliate of COSATU. Its president Willy Madisha, is also the president of COSATU.

The web-site also hosts an electronic version of the teachers and education newspaper "The Educators Voice" which is updated monthly by SANGONeT Technical Services Department. This newspaper and the web-site shot to fame when it broke the story of massive Aids fatalities among teachers in South Africa. Former president Nelson Mandela, picked up the statistics contained in the story in one of his speeches to highlight the scourge of HIV/Aids in South Africa, and the need for urgent action.

The site has regular media releases, speeches and congress reports. IN addition, it has introduced a resource for education union activists called the progressive educators tool kit, providing links to resources in Education for All, corporal punishment, and HIV-Aids. A popular section of the web is cross transfers which encourages teachers seeking transfers from their school / region to another to deal with others directly to effect this. Collective Bargaining is the newly re-energised section that provides information on the salary levels in the education sector in South Africa, and other matters of importance to rank and file members.
